Minnesota Freedom Fund raises $3M for Malala Fund

In what was a rare move by the Minnesota Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on education, the organization announced Tuesday that it has raised $3 million for the Malala Scholarship Fund, which is supporting the education of the late Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai.
“This is a momentous day for Malalah, for the world, and for us, as Malalahs students and teachers,” the fund’s executive director, Malala Bibi, said in a statement.
“The fund’s success will help to ensure the voices of girls, young women and men will continue to be heard in the global conversation on education and equality.
We know this is a difficult time for Malals family, but the fund will continue with the mission of making a difference in her memory.”
The fund is one of several that has been created to support education in the face of the Taliban’s assault on schools and other institutions in the country.
Last week, a U.S. judge ordered the Taliban to dismantle the foundation, but its leaders have so far refused to comply.
